This guide walks you through enabling the Happy Birthday integration with Mailchimp.

Written by Steve Jones

This guide walks you through enabling the Happy Birthday integration with Mailchimp. Once enabled, new Birthday Club sign-ups will be pushed directly into Mailchimp and email sending from within the Happy Birthday app will be disabled automatically.

You will need a Mailchimp account to use this integration. If you don't have one yet, create a Mailchimp account before continuing.

Generate a Mailchimp API Key

In your Mailchimp account, go to Account > Profile > Extras > API Keys, or use the search feature to find 'API Keys'.

If you already have an API key you'd like to use, copy it and move to the next step.

If you need to generate a new key, click Create A Key and give it a label such as Happy Birthday App so you can identify it later.

Enable the Integration

In the Happy Birthday app, go to Integrations, find the Mailchimp card and click Enable Mailchimp Integration.

You'll see a message confirming that email sending from the Happy Birthday app will be disabled. Paste your Mailchimp API Key into the field provided.

Once the key is entered, click Fetch available lists and select the Mailchimp list/audience you want to use for your Birthday Club. Remember to Save Settings.

What happens next?

Once enabled, the integration will create two new fields in your selected Mailchimp audience: a Birthday field and a Birthday Discount Link field.

New Birthday Club sign-ups will be pushed to Mailchimp with their date of birth and unique Birthday Discount Link. If the contact already exists in Mailchimp, we'll only append those two fields to their existing profile.

You'll now need to set up your Birthday Automation Flow in Mailchimp and template in Mailchimp.
