Styling the Birthday Email

Written by Steve Jones

Please note:

This article is aimed specifically at Merchants who wish to send out Birthday Emails via the Happy Birthday app (default). If you are using one of our integrations to send out your Birthday emails then the set-up and styling of your Birthday Email template will need to be handled within the settings of that service.

We provide a simple Birthday email template with a few settings that can be tweaked to suit your branding and messaging.

The email template is set to a maximum width of 600px.

You can see a preview of how your Birthday email appears from within the Birthday campaign editor.

Please note:

The discount code shown in the test/preview email is an example and will be replaced with a real discount code in the actual Birthday email that we send.

The Expiry date and Minimum Value information will be replaced with the actual Expiry date of the discount that we generate. If you have set a minimum spend amount in your discount code settings, then this will also be shown in the actual Birthday email that we send.

To begin editing the style of your Birthday email including adding a header banner, go to the Happy Birthday app > Your campaign and then click on the Configure birthday email button.

This will take you into the Birthday campaign editor.

There are two sections within the left-hand pane of the Birthday campaign editor that control the styling of the Birthday email. These are the Content and Styling sections:

Email banner

The email banner settings can be found within the Content section.

Email banners can be used to display your store's logo, a Happy Birthday image or possibly a customised combination of the two at the top of the Birthday email.

Animated gifs, simple gifs, PNG files and jpg/jpeg files will all work here.

We recommend that you use an image of no more than 600px wide which is the width of the email template that we use.

Once you have decided on the image that you wish to use, upload it in the Email Banner section of the settings:

Once you have uploaded your banner, save your settings and then preview your birthday email. You should see your banner in place in the preview.

You can remove the banner should you need to, or upload a replacement.

Email Styling

You can control the following elements of the Birthday email within the Styling section:

  • Font Size

Typically we'd ask for a screenshot or mockup first to see if it's something we are able to do. If not, we would ask you to provide email-friendly HTML and assets that we can use to work into our template system.
