When using the Happy Birthday app to send out your birthday emails, you can select the method by which your customer will redeem their discount. This article will explain the difference between using the auto-apply discount code option and the copy and paste discount code option.

This setting can be found from within the Happy Birthday app by going to Your campaign > Configure Birthday email > Discount display (left hand side of the campaign editor)

Here, you can select the preferred method for customers to redeem their birthday email discount using either copy and paste or auto-apply.

Shopify Merchants can utilise the Auto Apply discount feature to make the process of applying a discount code straight from the birthday email a breeze. This can result in fewer support enquiries from Customers related to incorrectly copying and pasting the discount code from the email to the Checkout.

By selecting the Auto Apply option, the discount code can be applied directly from the birthday email. Customers will then be directed to a page on your site (Discount Applied Landing Page) to confirm that the discount has been applied:

The Discount Applied Landing Page will confirm if the discount code is still valid and then inform the customer that their discount has been automatically applied to their shopping session. The customer is then prompted to click the Shop now button to activate the session:

With this option, the customer will need to copy the discount code from the email and then paste it into the discount code field when they checkout:

By default, the button link will be set to your store's homepage, but if you'd like to direct the customer to a specific collection, page or product, you can specify that URL here.
